LIONHEARTED

“History is an argument without end.”
Pieter Geyl

LET’S SHARE HISTORY

History is an invaluable resource for all to use in their personal expansion and interaction with the world.  As we experience new aspects of the world, we intend to explore the historical topics inspired by those experiences. During a course on medieval history, Kyle’s professor briefly talked about Richard I of England (AKA Richard the Lionheart).  Richard’s moniker developed from his prowess as a military leader and achievements as a king.  Due to the wide-ranging opinions and ongoing discussions about him, Richard the Lionheart’s story and sobriquet inspired the ethos of this blog. Much like Richard the Lionheart, everyone will have an impact on the world while they are here. Our hope is that their ability to analyze and apply the lessons of the past will guide the decisions they make and the legacies they leave.
Here at Lionhearted essays, we believe that every individual is creating their story as they navigate their lives.  Using short writings (which we will call essays), we would like to offer our observations about history and its relationship to contemporary events.  In doing so, we intend to show others the relevance of history to the current state of the world and the future of humankind.

While discussing history with family and friends, Kyle received input from several people saying they would have taken a greater interest in history had it been taught differently.  Mainly, if teachers could have shown the relevance of historical topics to current events.  By relating them, we believe that it will emphasize the unending relevance of history. Lionhearted essays will provide a space for people to engage in conversations about the past and demonstrate the value of history to those who do not pursue it in a conventional manner.  This blog is not intended to replace or substitute formal academic research, but rather provide a space to discuss the connection between the past and present.  Much of the content on this blog is inspired by current and historical events, travel, as well as topics that develop organically.  Although the format of this blog is intended to be informal, we will never use or tolerate false or misleading information or plagiarism.  Much of our content is based on our own personal observations and opinions. However, all historical research is conducted strictly in accordance with recognized professional practices of history and proper citations given when applicable.
